DH went to the feed store today, and we discovered no chicks or turkeys available. We were going to buy 5 bronze turkeys. Apparently the TSA is not allowing live animals to fly on commercial flights. I'm not sure if this is a permanent or temporary situation, but for now, we won't be able to get our turkeys. I found a couple of other places in AK, and one may not be selling poults this year, and the other is very small and does not ship live birds just eggs to hatch. So.... we'll see what happens. Maybe we'll get lucky and something will get worked out otherwise no turkeys for us. I'm extremely grateful we have the rooster and the incubator. It's times like this that Alaska feels very remote!
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them!
Have you checked out Triple D in Palmer? I know it's a 6 plus hour drive but maybe workable? We get our birds from them and the farm is clean and the birds happy. http://www.alaskatripled.com/
ReplyDeleteWe did try the Triple D, have heard great things about them. The economy has hit him hard, but he may have some in a month. He does ship in AK. Meanwhile they have figured out something, and the feed store is back in birds, but all the Bronze turkeys are spoken for. Next week maybe. Thanks for the info!
